Hi, I’m Jack Gainer, CEO of GradLeaders. I’d like thank you for taking a few minutes to listen to this GradLeaders NEXT update, the brand for every new product, feature, project, plan or process coming from GradLeaders in the future. During this presentation I’ll provide a quick recap of 2016 and outline our 2017 roadmap for innovation where we will redefine the career services industry.

 2016 was our first full calendar year as GradLeaders, and though a lot has happened over the past year, there is one thing that hasn’t changed ….  our dedication to you, our school partners. We have 3 main goals for each partnership: to increase your efficiency, to increase student engagement with your career center, and to improve the employment outcomes of your students. Every decision we made in 2016 was centered around these three priorities. As we look ahead to 2017, we’ll remain focused on these same goals…

The industry is evolving. We now live in a big data world. And the people and organizations that aren't taking advantage of this data and the insights it provides are falling behind. Other industries, like retail, have been the innovators in this movement. Perhaps, you’ve heard about how Costco used big data to handle a recall on bad fruit last year. Or how China plans to organize its society by giving citizens scores based on big data…. Unfortunately, the Higher Ed industry has been somewhat of a laggard in adopting the use of big data.

Over the past 100 years, Higher Ed and career services in particular have been SLOWLY evolving – from vocational guidance to job placement, to career counseling, to professional networking, and now online communities. The good news is, there is enormous opportunity to improve your day to day performance. As this evolution continues, it’s never been more important to set students up for success post-graduation. Career centers have become the backbone of the entire system, and the career outcomes data is the fuel that powers everything in Higher Ed from the career center to curriculum to admissions.

Unfortunately, students are struggling to find jobs today.  Research indicates that only 15% of college grads have real jobs.

This isn’t news to you. We’ve been doing surveys of career centers for years and the data consistently points to issues in student engagement and employment outcomes.

That’s where GradLeaders fits in! Our mission is to be the world's leading network for matching students and employers. This is, and always has been our core focus and the foundation of our business since we started over 20 years ago. Nobody has been helping Career Services offices longer than us. For decades, we’ve provided the best-in-class technology and services to automate the connection between students and employers.

Our goal for 2017 is no different. And our roadmap for innovation will not only help you increase your office’s efficiency, increase student engagement and improve employment outcomes… but we will do so by harnessing the power of big data and giving you simple data collection and analysis tools.

 First, we will complete an 18+ month redesign project to improve our student interface. It’s mobile friendly so job-seeking students can access your career service offerings on any device. That includes mobile phones, tablets and desktop computers. But the redesign wasn’t just about creating a more modern, responsive interface. We started by looking at the data to see what students where using the most. Taking this into account, the redesign will make it easier for students to find what they want quickly. And although we have prioritized IxD and the gap projects to be delivered in the first half of 2017 we have new exciting functionality that we plan to deliver later in 2017.  

Including the launch of new, modern dashboards to provide our GradLeaders Career Center admin users with data exploration tools that they’ve never had access to before. Together with you, we have learned a lot over the last twenty years. Now we are delivering that knowledge with a market-leading business intelligence platform. We’ve already previewed this to a few of our school partners and they literally can’t wait to get their hands on it.

The 2017-18 academic year will also include 2 other exciting projects – tools that will help your student build a better resume for their specific career path. The first is a skillset advisor tool so any student will be able to quickly enhance their resume through a guided, automated skillset advisor process within your career service platform.

The 2nd new technology will parse any approved resume into data elements, enabling highly effective curriculum counseling based on big data analytics. This will augment and enhance your personal interactions with students and their connections to right-fit jobs.

Finally, and possibly the most exciting project coming in 2017 is our new Labor Insights module powered by BurningGlass. BurningGlass is an artificial intelligence company that manages the nation’s largest database of online job postings. They then use their advanced artificial intelligence text mining tool to code 70+ facts about online job postings so that users can understand and adapt to the labor market in real time. Our easy-to-use Labor Insights dashboard in GradLeaders Career Center will allow detailed analysis of hiring activity by industry, occupation, education, and skills so you can be better prepared and more informed.

As always, this new GradLeaders Career Center technology will be branded to your school. We truly believe that the career center is the heart of it all, and as partners, we want to make sure that YOU get credit for helping your students land their dream jobs.
